Your first adult visual novel should match how you like to play. Some games are mostly reading and making choices. Others have you exploring locations. Others are a repeating progression loop with a dating theme on top. They all show up in the same lists, but they feel very different once you start. Decide which one you want, then pick a game. This guide shows you how.

Pick the kind of story game you want

Being a DIK is a choice-driven story. Eternum calls itself a choice-based Ren’Py visual novel. Both are the right starting point if you want to follow a narrative and make decisions along the way.

Treasure of Nadia is different: its premise is exploration and treasure hunting. Crush Crush is different again: an idle dating sim. Same adult audience, very different sessions.

Here is the quick rule:

  • You want to read and choose: start with a pure visual novel.
  • You want to move around and discover things: try an exploration adventure.
  • You want something you can dip in and out of: an idle dating sim fits better.

Our adult visual novel shortlist labels these neighbouring formats clearly, so you know what kind of game you are installing before you install it.

Being a DIK: start with Season 1

Being a DIK is sold in seasons, and the order matters. On Steam, the base product is Season 1. The Season 3 listing requires the base game and Season 2, and it uses saves from the end of Season 2.

So don’t buy the newest season first because it looks like “the game”. Start at Season 1, play in order, and keep your end-of-season saves. Read each listing’s requirements before you add it to your cart.

Our Being a DIK review walks through the seasonal structure and desktop support. If bundles or new editions appear later, the current store page has the final word on what is included.

Eternum: get it from the creator’s page

Eternum is distributed through its creator’s page. That is where to download it.

Watch out for a name clash: Eternum EX is a completely different game, a platformer on Steam. Search results happily mix up products with similar names, so check three things before you download:

  • The creator matches.
  • The description says visual novel.
  • The supported systems include yours.

This habit will save you from the wrong download with any game, not just this one.

Summertime Saga: pick your build before you play

Summertime Saga offers two download branches: a stable legacy build and an ongoing preview. Choosing between them is part of choosing the game.

The newer download is not automatically the better one for you. A walkthrough written for one branch may not match the other. If you plan to play with a guide, pick the branch that guide covers. Our build and save guide explains how to choose, and what to check before switching branches mid-playthrough.

Check your platform before you download

Each of these games supports a different set of systems:

  • Being a DIK: Windows and Linux.
  • Treasure of Nadia: Windows, macOS and Linux.
  • Eternum: Windows, macOS, Linux and Android.

That is a fast way to narrow your shortlist. Still glance at the current system requirements, because supporting an operating system doesn’t guarantee every old computer or phone will run the game well.

On Android, download from the creator’s own page and follow its installation notes. Don’t assume a desktop game is on Google Play, and don’t trust a third-party mobile package as official. Our Android guide lists only games with confirmed Android builds. On an iPhone, “mobile” does not mean there is an iOS version.

Walkthroughs: spoiler-free or full route?

Some players love making choices blind. Others want a walkthrough so they don’t miss anything. Both are fine. Decide before you start, so you don’t stumble into spoilers you didn’t want.

If you use a guide, check that its version and chapter match the build you installed. A short, current note beats a detailed guide for the wrong version.

We don’t publish route counts, ending totals or completion times for these games, because we can’t back them up. If those numbers matter to you, look for a statement from the creator. Meanwhile, keep a note of the choices you want to revisit, and save at the points the game allows. Each engine and edition handles saves its own way, so follow the game’s instructions.

Keep your saves safe when you update

Updates are where beginners lose progress. Before replacing an installation:

  1. Read the official update notes. Look for which save to start from, whether a new game is recommended and where data is stored.
  2. Back up the way the creator describes. We don’t give universal save paths, because they differ by device and version.
  3. Keep the old installation until the new one loads your progress correctly, where the instructions allow it.

This matters most for series like Being a DIK, where a later season depends on a completed save from the previous one. A game that launches is not the same as a game that loaded your story correctly. Check before you delete anything.

Which visual novel should you start with?

Make a shortlist of two, then choose:

  • You want a highly rated paid story in seasons: Being a DIK, starting with Season 1.
  • You want a visual novel straight from the creator, including on Android: Eternum.
  • You prefer exploring over reading: Treasure of Nadia.
  • You like the dating-sim premise and don’t mind picking a build: Summertime Saga.
  • You want something light and idle: Crush Crush.

Still torn? Read our Being a DIK vs Treasure of Nadia comparison or browse Summertime Saga alternatives. Checked on 5 October 2026: store pages and builds change, so look at the current version before you download.
